2011 is off to a quick start with a lot of changes in the Sackman household. The biggest event of this new year is that Husband has started his student teaching and is one step closer to being done with his master's and hopefully employed next year teaching (perhaps wishful thinking at this point with the dire financial issues in our state).
Anywhoo's...we've been preparing for this big event as it absolutely has turned our normal routine upside down, but like many things, preparation isn't always enough. Our biggest change has been our morning routine. For the past several years one of us was always home to get the little kids ready and off to school around 8:15ish. I was so lucky to job share for 5 years and be part of that and when I returned to work full time Husband did it (as his job started at 9am).
We now must both be at school by 7:30am...and of course being the gigantic brownnoser that he is...he wants to be there by 7:10am. So now all the lights are on in Casa de Sackman bright and early. We've also had to figure out childcare arrangements because Montessori doesn't start until 8am...blah blah blah.
Thankfully I have the most amazing parents who would walk on glass to help us out and they have really been a blessing. Nana Carol comes over before school and thankfully Ms. Cathy is still our saving grace for after Montessori. Papa John will help a few mornings to make this easier on all of us.
The madness of the morning rush has been manageable and I can even turn on the TV now (since before I was always so quiet). I also don't have to dress in the dark...no more mismatched socks or tops on inside out. It's also nice to see the little kids before the day starts.
Husband is having a great time...he's never one to complain and when I'm whining about, "Not wanting to go to work" he's smiling and looking forward to it. Grrrrrr.
There aren't likely to be tons of teaching positions in our bustling metropolis but we are crossing fingers and toes something turns up for him next year.
I almost forgot to mention the best part of our new schedule...we are both off at the same time and home early enough to enjoy more than just dinner. He gets to help with homework, carpooling to piano, basketball practice, laundry, etc. Yeah!
I was really hoping Husband would see how exhausting teaching is...and after our 3 little cherubs are tucked into bed we would crash on the couch together and let the mindless flow of TV settle us into a relaxing state....Ooooh, but no. He heads downstairs and runs on the treadmill. Double grrrrrrrrr. So now I've decided (along with the persuasion of Katy) that I'm going to run a 10k in April. And I too must use that quiet evening time to get moving and workout. Triple grrrrrr. Thankfully Idol is starting soon and I can enjoy some hideous entertainment while I exercise as I'm not about to give up my reality TV for working out!
