It's a Marathon...Not a Sprint

Summer is like a leisurely stroll in the park...a mellow boat ride...a 3 month relaxation massage...and then September hits and I don't know if I'm coming or going.  It's hard not to start the school year out in full sprint mode...yet after a few days I must remind myself that it's a 9 month marathon and if I don't slow down, get organized (and stay organized), and plan ahead I'm going to burn myself out.  September is almost so busy it takes my breath away...and I don't let my brain think to the lovely summer that I just said, "Goodbye" to.

Anywhoo's...here's the Sackman's Top Ten list from September:
1.  Husband got a job teaching special education...AWESOME...but he now has to go back and take 22 more credits to earn a special ed. endorsement.
2.  TJ is now in the 4th grade and I love seeing his so much!
3.  Beau started Kindergarten in the afternoons. He still goes to Montessori in the mornings..then rides the bus to Kindergarten..then rides the bus to my school where I pick him up!  He loves it all!
4.  Finny is continuing to pursue her Bachelor's Degree in Montessori...on the fast track for the 4 year degree for preschool!  I'd tell you she loves it, but my prep time doesn't match her school time, so I haven't had a chance to go yet.  Waaaaaah.  All reports from her teachers, my parents, and my mommy friends tell me she's fine.
5.  TJ is in his 2nd year of tackle football and he's AWESOME!  He is a rock star center on offense, plays nose guard on defense, and makes tough tackles on both.  I totally wouldn't care if he stunk at football, or hated it...but neither is the case.  He plays almost every down of the game on both sides of the ball and shows so much aggression that I sometimes don't recognize my own kid!
6.  Beau is having a great soccer season, scoring a ton of goals and flying around the field like the Road Runner...with his partner in crime
7.  ...Finley who is playing her first year of soccer. She's a bit clueless and is always more concerned with her socks, pony tail, color of her sweat pants, and what's for snack...but she did make a goal during her first game...who cares that it was in the wrong goal.  Thankfully Finny just follows her brother around the field, so all is good.
8.  The verdict is still out on Husband's HS football team...they have a young QB, and have played consistently inconsistent for the first 4 games, going 2-2.  League play starts tomorrow, so we'll see.  Thankfully fans and parents are always soooo kind and supportive when they are losing (dripping with sarcasm here).
9.  I'm still in my same classroom enjoying the most wonderful group of 4th graders!  In a tiny spot in my heart I was really hoping I'd be a school counselor this year...but that just isn't happening with all the state budget cuts to education...but for now I'm thankful for my job and continue to hope that someday (soon) I will be able to put my hard worked master's degree to work.
10.  8:00-8:30pm...the half hour of the day that I savour the most...children are in bed asleep (they are exhausted) and husband and I have a few quiet minutes to talk, relax, and chill on the couch...before grandma here is asleep by 8:31pm

On a side note...the 17 Day Diet is plugging along nicely. I've lost about 10lbs, but besides that my pants fit great... I have SO much energy. I stopped following the recipes in the book anymore and just making the same choices with my foods and continuing to exclude refined sugars and gluten's. I no longer have mid day crashes and I have so much more energy.  I had two beers on Saturday at Beau's birthday, but besides that I haven't had any alcohol either.  I think I'm going to have to re-introduce my evening glass of wine!

First day of school for Finley...boys had been going for a few weeks already.
 Beau outside Ms. Fletcher's room!
After their victory against East Wenatchee!
 Tanner and his BFF Caleb!
First day of preschool...again!

Walking to the football game...Go Pioneers!
TJ is hard to see as the center...but he does a great job!
Preparing to hit the field for her first game!
Beau is serious..while Finny is shaking her booty!
Finny and her BFF Paityn cheering on their brothers! My kids spend a lot of time at the football field!
Pin the ribbon on Captain America at Beau's B-Day Bash!
Beau taking a wack at my homemade pinata that was built like a steel trap!  Impressive!
Beau and his two favorite friends Halle and Killian!
TJ being nice to his brother..so he can play with his new toys!
 We love FOOTBALL!
Mommy and TJ on day 1 of school..and the start of the 17 Day Diet.

10 Years!

Yesterday husband and I celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary!  It was an extremely romantic day with Kindergarten open house for Beau, work for husband, Back to School Night for me, football practice for husband, topped off with...big surprise...football practice for TJ.  My mom was telling me on the phone how sad she felt for us having such a crazy day and not enjoying our anniversary, "I'm going to run a bottle of champagne over!"  "Sorry mom...17 day diet!"  But besides that, it really didn't bum me out that our day was so hectic, in fact I don't have a wedding anniversary memory in the past 7 years that hasn't been hectic because, guess what...we are busy doing a lot of stuff!  This is the phase of our life that is hectic, busy, scheduled, and a bit chaotic.  Find me a couple with 10 years of marriage under their belt, 3 kids, 2 careers who aren't busy...not gonna happen.  So instead of wallowing in pity that I served my family Papa Murphy's for dinner (and I ate broccoli and tuna fish) on my 10 year anniversary, I'm happy to be at this point in my life...running around like a mad woman and enjoying (almost) all of it.  When this nest is empty...hopefully our 25th anniversary...we'll be sitting in Venice sipping vino....until then I'm just thankful for all the blessings in my world of chaos!
