Part Two {Halloween}

Mid week Halloween...so I took the day off and enjoyed the celebrations in each kids classroom....and got some laundry done.

After a short after school chillax, we met up with friends for dinner before a quick trip around the neighborhood...where we met up with more friends and proceeded with a gaggle of gouls, goblins, and a duck hunter! I loved that costume because the boots and duck horn were loud! Couldn't lose him in the dark!

Final stop was a haunted house that was really awesome! Pumpkin and I took only the oldest boys .. And they were a bit nervous. TJ held my hand...I will take it! Home by 8pm..but I swear it felt like midnight!

Halloween is a favorite in the Sackman house...I love dressing up but not as much as Husband! He hasn't met a wig he doesn't like so this year he was a tad bummed I selected Frankenstein and Frankenbride for our costumes...until we started getting ready then he really got into it. He looked totally uncomfortable in xsmall football shoulder pads but it didn't stop him from having fun. Shocking I know! It was a very fun!

Another Season in the Books

Look at these two adorable kidlet's...cheering on Husband at his last home game of the season!  Won't they make the most gorgeous couple in twenty years when he's just wrapping up law school and she's finishing up her medical residency...I digress...point being we wrapped up yet another season and though it wasn't a great one in terms of winning, sometimes the lessons learned from losing and struggle are a bit more powerful.  It just doesn't feel as good.

The outcome of Husbands record this season doesn't do anything but reinforce with me how devoted and passionate he is about coaching; he doesn't coach to live vicariously through the kids, he doesn't coach because he knows it all, he doesn't coach to win, he coaches because he genuinely and truly loves it...he loves the boys...he loves helping them grow and become better people...and he coaches because he loves football.  

Papa John, who coached football for 20 years, has always been good at reminding Husband to keep it all in perspective.   It can all seem so HUGE and important right now...but in reality it's just another snapshot in life and in the big picture the wins or losses aren't really important. 

 It feels good and sure you enjoy it, but at the end of the day none of that matters...in twenty years this season will be another memory and the details of the games will be lost...but not the memories of this time and that's what I appreciate and take away from it all.  The excitement of Friday night...friends gathering at our house and walking together...visiting with people I've come to know from other schools...sitting with all our babies in the stands and watching them grow and create memories...enjoying the gathering's at our house afterwards where we warm up and wind down with a nice glass of wine.  

I really appreciate my parents and Husbands family who are so endlessly supportive and helpful while we have our "busy seasons,"  our friends who are genuinely positive and encouraging of Husband...they stand up to negative chatter and don't buy into passive aggressive put downs (we live in a small town remember...) but  truly recognize the effort Husband and his coaches/players put forth...and most importantly I appreciate this time in our lives because I know it's fleeting and someday my babies will be out of the nest and I'll think back to the chaos and madness of Friday night games and smile!  Go Pioneers!

Rock the Vote!

I have very strong memories of going to the voting polls with my mom growing up.  We'd go when she got off work and I'd have to sit outside the polling area and wait while she went in one of the several little cubbies to cast her ballot.  When she was done they'd give her a pin or American flag sticker that said, "I voted!'  and I used to think how I couldn't wait to go and vote! 

Sadly I didn't turn 18 in time to vote in the presidential election of 1996 and then was an ignorant moron during college and didn't vote because I lived all the way across the state from where I was registered to vote and didn't cast an absentee ballot.

I finally became a responsible citizen in 2004 and started voting...but sadly Washington state no longer has any form of voting except mail in...so my dream of going to the polls and casting my vote is lost!  Waaaaah! 

I do my best to follow politics as much as my poor brain can handle, and despite living in small town, conservative USA, both the Husband and I lean pretty left on most topics.  Today after school I swung by the post office to get the mail and was super excited to see our mail in ballots!  Usually Husband and I sit and vote together and have a little discussion on what we think, what we know, and what we don't know...but I went ahead and voted tonight without him.
